Organizing Ideas for the Weekend #12

Happy Friday!  Time for another organizing idea for your weekend :)

Do you have a lot of jewelry?  Can you easily find what you want to wear when you want to wear it?  Do you have some jewelry that you don't wear often because it's at the back of a drawer or on the bottom of a pile and you forget you have it?

Today I want to share some ideas for organizing your jewelry so you can enjoy every special piece you own.

This post was long overdue.  I mentioned on day 23 of the 31 Days of Organizing series that I would share ideas for organizing your jewelry soon and here it is more than 3 months later before I actually did it.  Not sure how that happened but I'm going to get more organized with blog topic ideas so hopefully it won't happen again :)

Now, if money is no object for you, there are lots of jewelry organizing products you can purchase to keep your necklaces, bracelets, earrings and rings organized.  For the rest of us though, organizing jewelry doesn't have to be a costly endeavour.  There are lots of DIY jewelry organizers that use items you already have around your house.  That way you can spend your money on pretty jewelry instead :)

I don't wear a lot of jewelry so I don't really have any inspiring pictures of my own to show you how to organize yours.

But here are a few pictures from some great bloggers that show how they organize their jewelry.

1.  Leanne made this beautiful earring holder from a picture frame and some screening.  Click the link below the picture for a tutorial.  Her post also shows pictures of ceramic egg cartons that she uses for small jewelry and hooks she uses for necklaces.

2.  Kelly organized her jewelry drawer using items from around her house including muffin tins, tea cups, and vintage dishes.

3.  Megan made this cute necklace holder using pretty knobs on a piece of wood.

4.  Jen made these colourful jewelry organizers from silverware trays.  What a great idea!

5.  Beckie used paint sticks and cup hooks to create places to hang her jewelry.

6.  Philicia organized her jewelry using a towel bar and shower curtain hooks.

7.  Amy hung bracelets and necklaces on this jewelry organizer that a family member made.  You could use a mug rack/tree as well.

8.  If you're looking for ways to organize both jewelry and accessories (like scarves, hats, and purses), here's a short video by Alejandra from Alejandra.tv, showing several different items she uses to organize her jewelry and accessories.
These are all fantastic ideas that you can easily use to organize your jewelry! So here's what you can do this weekend:
  • Go through all of your jewelry and purge anything that you don't really like or that is broken.
  • Group what you are keeping into categories - bracelets, necklaces, earrings, rings, etc.
  • Based on those categories and the space you have available (closet wall, dresser drawer, back of bathroom cabinet door, etc.), decide how you want to display your jewelry so that you can see everything.  {If something's hidden you probably won't wear it.}
  • Make or buy suitable organizers.
  • Enjoy all your pretty jewelry!
If you have a great jewelry organizing idea, please share it in the comments below.  If you organize your jewelry this weekend, I'd love to hear how you did it.

Happy organizing and have a great weekend!
